Wil is an experienced Trust, Estate, and Gift tax compliance leader, with over 20 years of managing tax compliance teams. Currently, Wil serves as a Director of Trust, Estate and Gift tax compliance at Gerson Preston. In that role he provides advice to clients, partners, and our staff on methods to minimize taxes and increase tax efficiencies using his detailed knowledge of tax elections and opportunities in the law.

History & Education

Prior to joining Gerson Preston, Wil was a senior member at two top 20 accounting firms in their Trust, Estate and Gift tax teams. At Gerson Preston, Will is responsible for the technical review of all fiduciary and wealth transfer tax products, this includes gift tax (709s), estate tax (706s), fiduciary and estate income tax (1041s), split interest trusts (5227s), as well as advising clients on the Generation Skipping Transfer tax (GSTT). He is also conversant with taxation of private (non-operating) foundations (990PF).

He has significant experience performing tax research in the area of Subchapter J. Examples of recent projects are understanding the tax effects of bifurcation of a Charitable Remainder Trust, and the early termination of a QTIP trust. He successfully advised a $100 million estate through an estate tax deferral program. He also oversees the Firm’s quality control over its fiduciary accounting production. He has developed Plans of Division for terminating trusts to provide for an equitable division of assets consistent with the governing document.

Wil is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in New York and New Jersey. Wil earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Pace University (NY). He then earned his Master of Science in Taxation from the University of Miami (Coral Gables).

He is a past Board member of a chapter of the California Society of CPAs, and a past member of the Estate Planning Councils in New Jersey and California. Wil has also served as an Adjunct professor at Santa Ana College (Ca.), various colleges in City University (NY), and Miami-Dade Community College (FL), teaching both financial accounting and individual taxation.
